Moors and Christians pre-festival ·
Mig Any Moors and Christians El Campello 2026: the May pre-festival
On 8, 9 and 10 May 2026, El Campello celebrates the Mig Any of Moors and Christians — the "half-year" pre-festival before the main festivals in October. Parades, mascletà, floral offering and a more relaxed atmosphere.
What is the Mig Any?
The "Mig Any" (half year in Valencian) is a Valencian tradition: a pre-festival six months before the main festivals. In El Campello it coincides with the celebration of the Mare de Déu dels Desamparats. The Festive Board organises parades, "entraetas" (small entries), mascletà and floral offering to the Virgin. It is the chance to see the Moors and Christians groups without the October pressure.
Indicative programme
Friday 8: opening proclamation and first parade. Saturday 9: midday mascletà, group entraetas, brotherhood dinner at the festive headquarters. Sunday 10: floral offering to the Mare de Déu dels Desamparats, mass, popular meal at the sports centre. Confirm the exact programme on the Junta Festera El Campello website closer to the dates.
Why come to Mig Any (and not wait for October)
It is more intimate: groups prepare, rehearse, have dinner together. Access to the festive headquarters is free, you can talk to festeros (all from the village). Without the crowds or heat of the main festivals. Good combination with El Campello May beach: 24°C, sea at 19°C, no tourist saturation.
How to fit Mig Any into a long stay
The festival lasts 3 days, but minimum stay at the apartment is 11 nights. This lets you arrive early, see Mig Any in the middle, and stay after for excursions — Alicante, Villajoyosa, Tabarca, Calpe, Benidorm. May is a particularly good month to visit Costa Blanca before the June rush.
