Moors and Christians of El Campello 2026: the village's Desembarcament
From 11-15 October 2026, El Campello celebrates its Main Moors and Christians Festival. The "Desembarcament" — recreation of the Moorish landing on the central beach — is declared of Provincial Tourist Interest.
The village's Main Festival
El Campello has celebrated Moors and Christians in October for decades, in honour of the Virgin of the Helpless and following Valencian tradition. Unlike Villajoyosa (July, international), El Campello keeps a more familial and local atmosphere — but equally spectacular if you want to experience the festival from within without tourist crowds.
The Desembarcament (12 October)
The central day. Moorish boats arrive on El Campello central beach at dawn. The Christians wait on land. The battle on the shore recreates the invasion and lasts about 20-30 minutes. Declared of Provincial Tourist Interest. Experienced with neighbourhood closeness: villagers come in pyjamas from home.
Day-by-day programme
Day 11: opening proclamation and band entry at 11:00, first Christian-Moor parade at 19:00. Day 12: Desembarcament at dawn + offering + popular meal + Alardo (harquebusiery) in the afternoon. Day 13: Moorish advance to the festive castle + daytime battle. Day 14: Christian reconquest. Day 15: Embassy and final procession.
Why October is a good month to visit
Mild temperatures (22-25°C by day, 15-18°C at night), beach still pleasant, without July crowds or prices. The festival fills the village but does not overflow. If you care about Mediterranean culture without stress, October in El Campello is the best window of the year.
Consejos prácticos
- The Desembarcament is at dawn on 12 October. Arrive at the central beach from 6:30 am.
- Book a table early if you want to dine at a restaurant on the 11, 12 or 13 — village restaurants fill up.
- Bring light jacket and hat: October dawns are cool.
- Some racós (festero tents) allow dinner paying a symbolic fee — ask at the tourist office.
- There is enough parking outside the old town. TRAM runs at normal frequency.
